As previously announced, II-VI Inc. (Nasdaq: IIVI) has formally adopted Coherent Corp. (Nasdaq: COHR) as its name. The change comes as a result of the company’s acquisition of Coherent, Inc., on July 1 of this year (see “II-VI gains Chinese government clearance for Coherent acquisition; deal close imminent”).
“We chose the name Coherent because it has the universal meaning of ‘bringing things together,’ and an appeal that we believe will expand our brand recognition and ultimately lead to value creation,” explained Dr. Vincent D. Mattera, Jr., chair and CEO of the new Coherent. “The broader meaning of the word coherent represents our diversity in thinking distilled into our clarity of purpose, our unity in action, and our broader sense of engagement by connection to our mission, vision, and values.”
The new corporate logo (see above) features an atom “which is foundational to what makes our products possible,” according to the company. Coherent has created a video to help launch the new brand.
The combined company will maintain II-VI’s founding date of 1971 and its corporate headquarters as Saxonburg, PA.
