Quantifi Photonics targets U.S. market after $10 million Series B funding round
Photonics test and measurement specialists Quantifi Photonics has announced completion of an oversubscribed Series B funding round of $10 million. The New Zealand company says the money will be used to finance its U.S. market expansion ambitions, including beefing up its sales, marketing, and customer support teams at its U.S. headquarters in Austin, TX. In parallel, part of the new funding will back the development and sales of new products aimed at support of R&D and manufacturing of 400G optical transceivers. The company did not reveal who participated in the round.
Auckland-based Quantifi was founded in 2012 as Southern Photonics and changed its name a year later to Coherent Solutions; it assumed its current name last year (see “Coherent Solutions rebrands as Quantifi Photonics as it expands into new markets”). The company made an early mark with instruments that support coherent transmission testing (see, for example, “Coherent Solutions debuts IQTransmitter with 40 GHz RF bandwidth” and “Coherent Solutions, Teledyne LeCroy pair for new optical modulation analyzer offerings”). Quantifi’s current focus is to enable optical transceiver manufacturers to perform a complete range of electrical and optical tests on high-data-rate optical transceivers via a single, modular platform. Along these lines, the company plans to launch a PXI PAM4 BERT module for 400G transceiver testing in the third quarter of this year.
Quantifi’s U.S. efforts will be headed by Dan Henmi in his role as vice president of sales for North America. “It’s fantastic to receive strong support from technology-savvy investors who recognize the capability of our team and the opportunity for Quantifi Photonics to carve out a leadership position in the photonics test and measurement industry in the U.S.,” Henmi said.
“We have significant opportunities with a number of existing customers, and we are focused on becoming a leading supplier to the world’s largest photonics manufacturers over the next five years,” added Andy Stevens, CEO and co-founder of Quantifi Photonics. “With the new funding and Dan’s leadership of our U.S. expansion and day-to-day operations, we are in an excellent position to execute our U.S. growth strategy.”
