Crehan Research: 800GbE switch deployments drive market growth

Dec. 12, 2024
The branded data center Ethernet switch market saw a return to growth in Q3.

On December 6, Crehan Research reported that the branded data center Ethernet switch market returned to growth in Q3 2024, following two quarters of decline.

The research firm reported that total market revenues increased 7% year-over-year, driven largely by growing 800GbE data center switch deployments. Crehan reports that the movement in the switch market supports its expectation that 800GbE switches will reach more than 20 million annual port shipments by 2027.

Crehan Research president Seamus Crehan called the revenue growth impressive, especially in light of recent supply restraints and backlog order fulfillment.

“Generative AI networking investments are having a rapid and meaningful market impact as cloud service providers deploy the highest available Ethernet networking speeds to handle the bandwidth demands of these workloads,” said Crehan in a press release.

Crehan Research also reported that 400GbE NICs had strong results during the quarter, with shipments growing throughout the year.
