GTA Teleguam to land MYUS subsea cable at its Alupang data center

Oct. 28, 2024
When finished, the cable system will connect the U.S. and Malaysia.

On October 24, GTA Teleguam announced that it has been selected by Hexa Capital Consultancy PLT as its U.S. landing party for the MYUS subsea cable system. GTA will land the cable at its Alupang data center in Guam, and the system is expected to go online in 2028.

The MYUS’s backbone will extend from the Malaysian Peninsula to GTA’s Guam data center and then to a cable landing station in Florence, Oregon, owned by Alaska Communications. The system will also extend to the Davao, Philippines, and the Indonesian cities of Balikpapan, Batam, and Jakarta.

Roland Certeza, president and CEO of GTA, said his company proudly welcomes the landing station.

“Guam’s position as a key subsea hub ensures MYUS will benefit from seamless global connectivity, backed by multiple backhaul providers and access to emerging cable systems,” said Certeza in a press release. “Our proven expertise and local team will work closely with MYUS, reinforcing GTA’s role as a trusted partner in building the Pacific’s digital future.”

Hexa founder and CEO Dr. Azhari Abang Hadari said the cable is being designed specifically to provide reliable direct fiber for large hyperscalers, telecom carriers, and government customers.

“GTA in Guam was an obvious choice when we evaluated strategic partnerships in the U.S. Pacific Region with their long history of stable high-performance network development,” said Hadari in the same press release.

Late last year, GTA received support to strengthen its presence in Guam through a $200 million investment from Stonepeak.
