On October 7, Indian information and communications technology (ICT) service and solution provider Sify Technologies announced that it has deployed Ciena’s optical technology to upgrade its countrywide National Long Distance network and connect its seven Metro Area Networks.
Sify is deploying Ciena’s 6500 Reconfigurable Line System and Waveserver 5 to double its network capacity and reports the upgrade will help interconnect its AI-ready data center hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida.
Harsha Ram, Sify’s head of network business, said bandwidth demand in India is rapidly growing.
“Using Ciena’s optical technology, we’ve doubled our network capacity to 600G,” said Ram in a press release. “This will be offered via Ciena’s line system, which can support both C and L band transponders. Our customers will now have access to ultra-low latency connectivity and unparalleled support to generative AI, cloud services, and applications.”
Sify is also leveraging Ciena maintenance services and Navigator Network Control Suite (Navigator NCS).
Amit Malik, vice president of Ciena India, said the Ciena technology will allow Sify to scale as needed.
“Ciena has been working closely with Sify to create an adaptive network that can deliver transformative business connectivity to enterprises and cloud providers across India,” said Malik in the same press release.
Digital telecom infrastructure company Constl also recently deployed Ciena technology across its Pan-Indian network to support up to 800G services and facilitate its plan to scale to 1.6T service.
