Ribbon Communications appoints John Townsend as CFO

Townsend will succeed retiring CFO Miguel Lopez.

On October 3, Ribbon Communications Inc. announced the appointment of John Townsend as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Townsend will succeed Ribbon’s current CFO, Miguel Lopez, who announced his retirement in August.

Ribbon Communications CEO Bruce McClelland said Townsend’s appointment reflects the company’s commitment to strategic leadership.

“John joins us with extensive industry experience and a strong track record of delivering profitable growth, value creation, and financial foresight,” said McClelland in a press release. “We welcome John to Ribbon as we continue our mission to become a leading communication solutions supplier.”

Townsend has a lengthy history within the industry, most recently serving as the CFO of Digicel. Prior to this, Townsend spent almost two decades at Vodafone and then nine years at Verizon Communications.

In the same press release, Townsend reported that he is looking forward to joining Ribbon.

“In my discussions with Bruce, members of the Board of Directors, and other members of the executive team, it was clear to me that Ribbon is executing well against its strategic vision and has positioned itself to capitalize on major industry investments in network transformation to support the exponential growth in data traffic from mobile, broadband, and AI,” said Townsend.

Townsend’s appointment is effective November 1, 2024.
