Worldwide telecom equipment revenue declines in the first half of 2024
A new report from Dell’Oro Group shows that worldwide telecom equipment revenues are down in the first half of 2024, continuing a trend from 2023.
Dell’Oro Group’s Stefan Pongratz reported that the six telecom programs that the group tracks for these findings: Broadband Access, Microwave & Optical Transport, Mobile Core Network (MCN), Radio Access Network (RAN), and SP Router & Switch, showed a 16% year-over-year decline in the second quarter of 2024—the fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit declines.
Revenue slowed in all regions, including China, where the total telecom equipment market experienced a 17% year-over-year decline in the second quarter.
In a press release, Pongratz explained that the results are due to excess inventory, a challenging 5G environment, and heightened levels of uncertainty.
The Dell’Oro analyst team forecasts global telecom equipment revenues for the total year to decline 8% to 10% in 2024, compared to a 4% decline in 2023.
