28 January 2004 Hayward, CA, and Tokyo, Japan Lightwave -- Glimmerglass and Nissho Electronics have announced a strategic alliance in which Nissho will introduce Glimmerglass' photonic switching subsystems to customers in Japan. The partnership recognizes the potential associated with improving optical networks using microphotonics technologies.

"Glimmerglass' products will revolutionize the way light through fiber is connected across networks," reports Takashi Fukuda, senior managing director of Nissho Electronics Corp. "The ability to dynamically reconfigure optical networks, independent of data rate and format, is paramount to cost-effectively addressing the rapidly changing traffic patterns and growing bandwidth demands characteristic of networks today."

Glimmerglass' commercially available products include REFLEXION, a family of photonic switching subsystems used by telecommunications systems manufacturers in WDM and fiber switching applications. REFLEXION subsystems are designed to mount onto a single circuit pack and support non-blocking configurations from 16x16 to 160x160 (input fibers x output fibers).
