CIENA launches new regional headquarters in Hong Kong

June 20, 2001--CIENA Corporation, a global provider of intelligent optical networking systems and software, announced the launch of its Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

CIENA Corporation (Nasdaq: CIEN), a global provider of intelligent optical networking systems and software, announced the launch of its Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong. The newly opened full-service office provides sales, training, testing and support facilities to staff and customers across the Asia Pacific region.

The launch of the Hong Kong facility is the latest in a series of investments that underscore the company's long-term commitment to the Asia Pacific region. In addition to CIENA's presence in the key Asian markets of Japan and Korea, the company is planning to launch sales offices in other major cities throughout Asia. CIENA already conducts business with Asian telecommunications and Internet service providers.

CIENA brings to the Asian market a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for core and metropolitan optical networks. These include its MultiWave CoreDirector platform, an intelligent optical core switch, as well as its MultiWave MetroDirector K2 next-generation multi-service access and switching platform. CIENA also provides high-capacity optical transmission through its MultiWave CoreStream system for long-haul and ultra long-haul networking, as well as the MultiWave Metro system for metropolitan area networking. CIENA's LightWorks ON-Center provides a suite of management and planning software for intelligent optical networks and services.

Products from CIENA's family of intelligent optical networking solutions will be on display at CommunicAsia 2001 in Singapore, June 19-22.
