Sensors Unlimited, Inc. announces the grand opening of its newly expanded Princeton facilities, where fiber optic components used in Internet and telecommunications applications are designed and fabricated.

The grand opening, scheduled for January 12, 2001 will be held in conjunction with the New Jersey Technology Council and will feature a tour of Sensors' cleanroom, where the company processes and tests its Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs) devices.

Sensors Unlimited is a supplier of the photodiode arrays that are used in the Optical Performance Monitors that safeguard the performance of the optical network. Sensor's Optical Eyes are InGaAs photodiode arrays that serve as the eyes within fiber optic networks, enabling telecommunications companies to boost the capacity, performance and reliability of their existing fiber optic networks.

"The cleanroom has tripled in size, to over 5,000 square feet, and we've automated more of our operations, which speeds the fabrication process," notes John Sudol, vice president of operations at Sensors Unlimited. "In addition, we can now produce larger size wafers, yielding more linear arrays per wafer, which increases our production output."

Sensors Unlimited currently has over 35,000 square feet of space for technical, administrative and support functions. Technical capabilities include the class 1,000/100 cleanroom for complete device processing and testing of III-V compound detectors and lasers. Facilities include photolithography, dielectric deposition, thermal and e-beam metal deposition, p-contact diffusion and annealing, chip dicing and automatic probing. Test facilities include infrared detector testing and automated laser diode characterization in wavelength range 0.65 (micron)5 (micron).

As a supplier of InGaAs technology, Sensors Unlimited's Optical Eyes make it possible for a telecommunications provider to ensure the stability and accuracy necessary to optimize bandwidth.

About Sensors Unlimited:

Sensors Unlimited, Inc. is a supplier of optical components that monitor the performance of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. This technology enables telecommunications companies to optimize the use of existing bandwidth in their fiber optic networks.
