ADVA Optical Networking and INRANGE partner for high-performance storage networking applications
ADVA Optical Networking (German Neuer Markt: ADV), a global provider of optical networking solutions, and INRANGE Technologies (Nasdaq: INRG), a provider of high-end, scalable storage networking solutions, announced they have entered into a partnership agreement that will provide solutions for high-performance storage networking applications. With the new agreement, INRANGE will sell the ADVA Fiber Service Platform (FSP) Product Portfolio under the INRANGE IN-VSN Spectrum label, while ADVA will contract INRANGE for field service and level 1 and 2 support.
ADVA and INRANGE have a joint selling history since 1995, with over 5,000 WDM channels sold to over 100 different end-customers, including Fortune 1,000 Enterprises, Storage Service Providers, and Metro Carriers. The ADVA FSP solutions are designed for high-speed Enterprise and Metropolitan Area Access Networks to provide cost-effective, high-speed data, storage, and video services for applications such as disaster recovery, high-speed remote data mirroring, wide area data replication, remote data backup, digital content distribution, and storage outsourcing. ADVA's platforms support a broad range of services from 1.5Mbps to 2.5Gbps and can optically multiplex from one to 32 channels on a single fiber pair.
Through its IN-VSN family of Virtual Storage Networking solutions, of which the FC/9000 Fibre Channel Director is the cornerstone, INRANGE has pioneered the concept of virtual storage networks -- the capability to internetwork SANs across dispersed locations, using fiber optic and network-based channel extension technologies. By combining the IN-VSN Spectrum optical networking technology with the FC/9000 family of solutions, Fibre Channel traffic can be sent over the campus and metro area network to another director or edge switch for use in extended distance SAN applications, overcoming distance limitations and delivering mega-bandwidth capabilities for communication between SANs.
As the trend for larger SAN rollouts continues, large corporate users demand 99.999 percent network uptime and mega-bandwidth infrastructures capable of centrally managing storage-server connectivity across heterogeneous environments. Interconnecting SANs by using IN-VSN Spectrum optical networking solutions based on ADVA's technology enables storage applications at distances of up to 80 km over a high performance optical fiber link. This allows SAN customers to access data on a storage subsystem located in a metropolitan area at performance levels that are equal to direct-attached storage. To meet this growing requirement, Verizon Telecommunications (Bell Atlantic & GTE) is offering an economical, managed optical networking service using INRANGE's IN-VSN Spectrum II DWDM technology that is reliable, scalable, and speed/protocol transparent for metropolitan area enterprise customers that are connecting various buildings in the enterprise, throughout a metro area.
ADVA Optical Networking will be at OFC, booth 236 from March 17-21 in Anaheim, CA, USA and CeBIT, booth F058 in Hall 17 from March 22-28 in Hannover, Germany
