5 May 2003 Sunnyvale, CA and Murray Hill, NJ Lightwave--Juniper Networks and Lucent Technologies announced a partnership to deliver technology and services to help service providers evolve their networks to a full-service IP infrastructure. The companies are also collaborating on joint development.

IP Virtual Private Network (VPN), available now, is based on existing products that enable service providers to offer a full range of VPN services over a common IP/multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) core network.

Multiservice MPLS Core, available Q1 2004, is designed to grow ATM/Frame Relay revenues and add IP services onto a converged IP/MPLS core.

IP Centrex, available now, enables service providers to deliver business-quality IP Centrex services to thousands of enterprises over a flexible, packet-based network.

Enhanced DSL, available now, is a scalable, xDSL solution that will enable service providers to address mass-market xDSL service rollout.

Optical Edge, under joint development, is designed to help expand the enterprise market for Ethernet services over existing service provider networks.

Each service solution is supported with single-source network design, deployment and maintenance services by Lucent Worldwide Services. Lucent Navis integrated network management software will be used to improve efficiencies and reduce operating costs.

"This partnership makes sense to us and gives us a path to leverage our embedded base of data networks," said Paul Lacouture, president of Network Services for Verizon Communications (New York City). "We are very interested in how quickly they can meet the challenge of provisioning and managing new IP-based services end-to-end across our networks."
