RSoft Design Group partners with ATS on its optical communication system and network-level design tools
17 June 2003 Ossining, NY Lightwave--RSoft Design Group, Inc. today announced two agreements with Alps Telecommunications Software (ATS), a start-up company founded via the I3P Incubator at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. ATS will distribute RSoft's system-level tools--including OptSim and LinkSIM--and its network-level tool, Artifex, across the European Union (with the exception of France). RSoft product distribution in France will continue to be handled by OPTOPRIM.
RSoft and ATS also entered into a consulting relationship where ATS will collaborate on research and development with RSoft on RSoft's system-level tools. These agreements will significantly enhance RSoft's sales channels in Europe and allow for the continued development of its system tools to better serve current and future RSoft customers.
RSoft Design Group provides a full range of simulation and planning software and services across the entire component- to network-level hierarchy. In January of this year, RSoft acquired the intellectual property assets of and key employees from ARTIS. Former ARTIS employees in Europe comprise the ATS team; Stefano Palmero will direct the ATS sales process as vice president of sales and marketing, where he will be able to take advantage of the market knowledge developed when he held the same position at ARTIS.
Dr. Vittorio Curri, chief executive officer of ATS, notes, "The distribution agreement we have signed is a great opportunity for both RSoft Design Group and ATS. RSoft will be able to take advantage of the well-known technical skill of ATS' people, as well as to their experience in the market segment. ATS will benefit by being a partner of a company with deep market penetration and well-funded future plans. The ATS team, including myself, is really delighted that the distribution agreement has been added to the collaboration contract already in place between ATS and RSoft."
Prior to joining ATS, Dr. Curri was a member of the R&D department at ARTIS, where he coordinated the interaction with product management, product development, and high-level technical support groups, in addition to contributing to research activities.
Pierluigi Poggiolini, an associate professor of optical communications at Politecnico di Torino and the president of ATS, continued, "This R&D collaboration between RSoft and ATS has a great significance because ATS is an official spin-off of Politecnico di Torino, one of the major academic institutions in Europe. At Politecnico we carry out cutting-edge research, often within large European projects, which fosters and stimulates the development of innovative simulation techniques. RSoft will be able to take advantage of ATS' association with this university in the development of its products."
