NKT Integration and C2V establish collaboration on the development and manufacturing of integrated optical components
3 September 2003 Denmark/Netherlands Lightwave--NKT Integration, a planar waveguide foundry, and C2V, a supplier of customized OEM solutions in the field of integrated optics and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technologies, have formed a collaboration to develop and manufacture integrated optical components and sensors based on planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology.
PLCs are winning acceptance as the industry standard platform, for optical integration with increased functionality at low cost. PLC-based devices are deployed within telecommunications networks, in multiplexing, distribution, and optical signal routing; and used in non-telecommunications applications, such as monitoring devices for homeland security. As part of this collaboration, the parties will provide their customers with optical design solutions based on NKT Integration's PLC foundry process.
"We are pleased to announce this collaboration and welcome the clear benefits to our customers," says Lars Rønn, CEO, NKT Integration. "C2V has a demonstrated track record in the design of planar lightwave circuits with strong emphasis on design for manufacturing and yield modelling. Combining this expertise with our high quality foundry services and installed volume capacity provides customers with a fast track into integrated optics at lower development cost and reduced risk." NKT Integration, a company in the NKT Holding A/S group, has operations in Denmark, the U.S., and Canada.
Job Elders, CEO, C2V adds: "We are proud to extend our integrated optics and MEMS foundry network with the impressive capabilities of NKT Integration's renowned Silica-on-Silicon PLC process, and their newly introduced SiON-on-Silicon process for ultra compact PLC devices. This collaboration enables us to offer our customers the best solution using a portfolio of different technologies." C2V emerged as the result of a management buy-out of Alcatel Optronics Netherlands.
