26 September 2003 San Diego Lightwave -- Dutch Internet service provider BIT (Business Internet Trends) has built a three-city regional backbone network using Sorrento Networks' JumpStart CWDM system. BIT is one of the Netherlands' leading Internet service providers focused on serving the business market.

BIT first deployed JumpStart in September 2002 and recently expanded this network by adding a third city to form a regional ring with a circumference of 260 km. Supporting Gigabit Ethernet for enterprise customer applications, BIT's CWDM network uses just a single optical fiber to carry the traffic between each add/drop node, plus a protection fiber for redundancy. Sorrento Networks' Northern European distribution partner, Infraconcepts, supported BIT with the design and implementation of this network.

"We needed reliable and cost-effective optical networking equipment to light up the intercity connections between our major router points of presence," explains Michel van Osenbruggen, chief executive officer of BIT. "Sorrento's CWDM capability met our requirements and budget and was simple to deploy, provision, and monitor."
