15 August 2003 Redwood City, CA Lightwave -- According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the 10-Gbit/sec router segment showed healthy growth amidst an overall flat market. The worldwide router market remained stable at $1.5 billion in 2Q03. Router sales have hovered at this level for five consecutive quarters, with minimal quarter-to-quarter fluctuations.
Four of the five router segments tracked in the report had flat sales in the second quarter. The one exception was the segment for the highest performance routers--those used by telecommunications service providers to transmit Internet traffic at data rates of 10 Gbits/sec. According to the report, the 10-Gbit/sec router segment grew 10% sequentially to $170 million.
