29 August 2003 Hamburg, Germany Lightwave -- Pandatel AG has announced the formation of a development company, Pandatel Ltd. in Kfar Saba, Israel. The new company is a 100 percent subsidiary of Pandatel AG. Pandatel Ltd. appointed Elroi Marom to be managing director.

Marom was director for access equipment at the Israeli company Native Networks Ltd., where he was responsible for the development of optical multiplexers.

As Pandatel's SDH/SONET Competence Center, Pandatel Ltd. will focus on the development of technologies and products for conventional optical networks based on the SDH/SONET protocol; all activities will managed from the Hamburg headquarters.

Jürgen Schröder, director of product development at Pandatel AG, is confident that the development performance of Pandatel can be increased significantly due to the new assets. "We aim to offer our customers cost-effective, flexible products at an attractive price. We found perfect conditions in Israel: an innovative environment and highly qualified employees," he says.

The development team in Israel is presently working on a modular multiplexer to transfer voice and data in parallel over SDH networks, based on Pandatel's multiplexer S-MUX 155. The new device is to be launched mid-year 2004.
