25 August 2003 Redwood City, CA Lightwave-- According to a recently published report by Dell'Oro Group, the total optical transport equipment market stayed flat at $1.5 billion in 2Q03, compared to 1Q03. This is the third consecutive quarter of modest movements in the total optical transport market compared with the double digit declines of 2001 and 2002.
The strongest growth was in the DWDM metro equipment market, which grew 20% in 2Q03 to $134 million. Nortel was ranked first based on revenue, with 10% growth quarter-over-quarter. Lucent had the strongest growth at 287% in DWDM metro sales, bringing the company from sixth in the vendor rankings to second. Ciena ranked third with 2% growth, and ADVA Optical was fourth, with 33% growth.
