Optical fiber specialist Furukawa of Japan will streamline its customer service across Europe with the creation of a new FITEL Interconnectivity Division. Furukawa Electric Europe Ltd has formed the new division from its current Fusion Splicer and MT Connector groups.
"This is a good move for everyone and most importantly our customers throughout the European market place," contends Interconnectivity Division manager Colin Bonniface.
"Previously both businesses had common customers, distribution channels, and industries," he explains, "but now we can all work together and offer from one contact point the world's best range of splicers and optical connectors."
Furukawa is now the world's second largest manufacturer of optical fibre, following the acquisition of the Optical Fibre Division of Lucent Technologies Inc. last year. Late last year, the company launched the world's fastest optical splicer, the S176, with a splice time of just 11 seconds.
The new division will market the complete range of Furukawa splicers and accessories for applications in both factory and field locations and also high-end multi-fiber connectors, ferrules, and patch-cord assemblies.
