April 16, 2002--OMM, Inc. (www.omminc.com) announced that Lumentis AB of Stockholm, Sweden (www.lumentis.se), has incorporated OMM's two-dimensional MEMS-based optical switching modules into the optical cross-connect (OXC) functionality of its Mentis 3000 Metro system.
Using OMM's modules, Lumentis has developed and commercialized an all-optical, single board, single slot OXC as part of the Mentis 3000 Metro system for dynamic wavelength management in metropolitan area networks. The transparency provided by the OXC is designed to ensure a future-proof solution for multi-data rates and DWDM optical networks.
"We see medium sized all-optical cross-connects as the best enabler for flexible metro DWDM systems today," said Dr. Magnus Oberg, CTO at Lumentis.
"Lumentis is one of the most promising emerging system vendors in the European market that has a very compelling set of solutions for cost reduction in today's optical networks," said David Krozier, senior analyst at telecom industry research firm RHK, Inc. "OMM is the only company that is delivering qualified all-optical switching products for these types of critical applications."
