October 15, 2002--Agility Communications, Inc. (www.agility.com) will enter the Chinese optical networking marketplace through a distribution agreement and partnership with Luster Lightwave. Under the agreement, Luster Lightwave will serve as Agility's distribution partner in China, expanding Agility's sales and support of its widely tunable lasers. According to leading industry analyst firm RHK, the Asia-Pacific market for optical networking equipment should grow from $3.5 billion to $4.8 billion by 2005.
Headquartered in Beijing, Luster Lightwave is a startup serving the metro and long-haul markets in China. Luster Lightwave distributes optical components for several North American companies including Codeon Corp., WaveSplitter Technologies, and TeraXion. Through the agreement, Luster Lightwave will resell Agility's widely tunable lasers to China-based system vendors looking for increased bandwidth solutions.
" There is a huge market opportunity in China as the demand for optical networking components that address the deployment of bandwidth on demand is increasing and will continue to grow," said Dr. Yates Y. Yao, Luster Lightwave. "Agility and Luster Lightwave have a similar approach to working with customers, and we are confidant our relationship will prove mutually beneficial."
"Agility is committed to the Asia-Pacific market, and we are excited to partner with a young, aggressive company such as Luster Lightwave," said Arlon Martin, vice president of sales and marketing, Agility Communications. "Strong relationships with Chinese distributors and service partners are key success factors in penetrating this market."
