October 28, 2002--Akara, a manufacturer of storage-over-SONET extension solutions, announced its optical utility services platform (OUSP) was qualified by EMC Corp., a leader in information storage, as E-Lab tested.

Akara, a manufacturer of storage-over-SONET extension solutions, announced its optical utility services platform (OUSP) was qualified by EMC Corp., a leader in information storage, as E-Lab tested.

Enterprises using EMC business continuity software now have immediate access to an alternative remote MAN/WAN connectivity capability for storage solutions that provides both application performance and cost savings. Akara's OUSP was qualified with EMC's Symmetrix and CLARiiON enterprise storage systems and EMC's Symmetrix remote data facility (SRDF) and MirrorView remote mirroring software.

EMC's E-Lab tested qualification process is a series of exhaustive functionality and reliability tests to ensure the interoperability of the components that make up a multi-vendor information storage network.

The EMC-Akara solution supports Symmetrix and CLARiiON enterprise storage systems, SRDF over Fibre Channel and ESCON, and MirrorView remote mirroring software over Fibre Channel connections. Akara's OUSP is a customer-premise device that enables enterprises to extend these business continuity applications over greater distances (MAN and/or WAN within the same device) by connecting to existing SONET, DWDM or dark fiber networks. The combined offering provides enterprises immediate access to a secure, low-cost, high performance solution for replicating their data center to one or more remote sites, making business critical data available for immediate recovery from unforeseen disasters and planned or unplanned outages.
