Modulight, Inc., an ISO 9001:2000 certified manufacturer of high-performance optical components, has joined the 10-Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable (XFP) Multi Source Agreement (MSA) Group.
Modulight joins the group as "contributor" with an intention to support the work of the MSA Group by providing module manufacturers with a direct connection to (sub)component supply-chain. The goal of the MSA Group is to create a specification for a module, cage hardware, and integrated circuit interfaces for a 10-Gbit/sec hot pluggable module converting serial electrical signals into external serial optical or electrical signals. The technology is intended to be flexible enough to support OC-192/STM-64, 10-Gbit Fibre Channel, G.709, and 10-Gigabit Ethernet, usually with the same module.
"We believe that XFP membership allows us to tune-in to customer frequency even better," contends Seppo Orsila, vice president of Modulight Inc. "I consider that the valuable input Modulight gets by being among the leading group of companies such as XFP group paves the way for our 10-Gbit/sec products and makes us more reactive to customer needs. This is in-line with our overall strategy as an independent component supplier widely supporting the industry in deploying new technologies."
