Lumentis AB announced an order to build the 3G-transport for Hi3G in the Malmo region in South Sweden. Earlier, Lumentis delivered and installed a solution for Hi3G's 3G-network in the Stockholm region.

For the Malmo region, Lumentis will deliver its optical SDH/SONET-solution that is optimized for mobile 2G- and 3G-networks. This product solution results in lower transmission costs for mobile networks as well as offering a disturbance-free upgrade path to DWDM over the same fiber infrastructure.

By deploying Lumentis' equipment, Hi3G will have a smooth upgrade path for higher capacity and the ability to handle multi-service transport. As part of this order, Lumentis will also deliver an element management system that fulfills functionality requirements and applicable standards for mobile networks.

Lumentis also announced that its optical metro platform was chosen for test and validation in the Swedish stock exchange's local and international optical networks. OM has already approved the Lumentis solution for some of its stock exchanges and additional networks are underway nationally.

By deploying Lumentis' WDM equipment, OM can easily adapt to higher capacity, longer distances and changes in network topology. The simplified network design and reduced fiber demand can be directly translated into savings in operational expenses and faster return on investment. Lumentis offers, as part of the WDM-architecture, a variety of plug-in units that can combine several data streams into one wavelength. This concept reduces the cost for each individual channel and allows the network to run a broader range of traffic types and applications at a lower cost.
