August 21, 2002--Fiberspace Inc. has acquired the assets of Altadena, CA-based Tunable Photonics Corp., a privately held company specializing in solutions for network tunability.
Fiberspace will offer Tunable Photonics' TrueLock external and internal wavelength lockers and TrueMap laser characterization system alongside its ultra-stable tunable laser sources for a full line of wavelength stabilization solutions. By extension, Fiberspace will support Tunable Photonics' relationships with existing customers, suppliers, and partners.
Per the agreement, Fiberspace will obtain a sizable patent portfolio from Tunable Photonics, including some technology originating from NASA/Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA.
"I believe this combination is an excellent move for both Fiberspace and Tunable Photonics," contends George Balogh, chief executive officer of Tunable Phtonics Corp. "Our company brings a wealth of innovation and marketing expertise, and Fiberspace, with its strong venture-backing, can afford to quickly bring our products to the mass production level."
"Wavelength stability is critical to the deployment of ultra-dense WDM systems and, leveraging Tunable Photonics' expertise with our own, we are confident that our greater range of solutions for cost-effective, next-generation tunable networks will continue to gain customer traction," says Dr. Leonardo Berezovsky, Fiberspace chief executive officer and co-founder. "Adding the competencies of Tunable Photonics' advanced wavelength lockers strengthens our offerings and further augments our leadership in wavelength stability."
