Mediacom Business partners with the Springfield Public School District
On October 2, Mediacom Business announced a new partnership with the Springfield Public School District (SPS) in Missouri to provide fiber infrastructure for the district’s wide-area network (WAN). The project connects over 60 school district facilities to a secured private broadband network.
Mediacom was selected for the project in 2023, and work to connect the district to Mediacom Business’ network was completed in July. Costs for the project were covered by funding from the FCC’s E-Rate Program.
Mediacom Business reports that it now manages a fiber connection supplying 10 Gbps of connectivity to each SPS building and a 40 Gbps connection to the district’s administration site and offsite data center. The enhanced speeds have allowed the district to deploy its online learning platform Launch.
Bruce Douglas, chief information officer for SPS commented on how important a reliable network is to the school district.
“As our district relies more heavily on technology each day, whether that be for online learning or public safety, a robust and reliable broadband connection is crucial for the daily operation of the entire district,” he said in a press release. “The best internet connection is one we never have to think about, allowing us to do our job of educating the next generation, and we applaud Mediacom for providing such a connection to SPS.”
Mediacom reports that the network also benefits the Springfield Schools Police Department, which utilizes broadband services for security efforts.
