Nokia adds new 5G receiver and gateway to its North American FWA portfolio
On July 25, Nokia announced that it is adding new products to its North American portfolio of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband access products: The Nokia FastMile 5G16-B receiver—a 5G FWA outdoor receiver, and the FastMile 5G Gateway 12—an indoor gateway with Wi-Fi 7.
Nokia reports that the new devices use high-gain antennas to help operators deliver FWA broadband services across rural, urban, and suburban environments. The solutions support a broad range of 4G and 5G bands, including Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS).
Dirk Verhaegen, vice president of Broadband Devices at Nokia, said in a press release, “Using Fixed Wireless Access to connect end customers to fast internet access requires more than just one type of device. Nokia’s FastMile solutions provide operators with options, bringing fast, reliable broadband to people no matter where they live.”
Nokia further reports that customers can access a mobile app that will help them identify optimal receiver and gateway installation locations. The receiver, the company says, maximizes throughput in locations where signals may be weak, while the gateway improves capacity and coverage. Both products are slated to launch in Q3 2024.
