On July 24, Lumos announced that it is investing $230 million to build nearly 2,000 miles of fiber optic network in Ohio, marking the company’s first expansion to the state.
Homes and small businesses in Mahoning County and Trumbull County will have access to fiber from Lumos, and engineering work for the new network is expected to begin in late 2024.
Lumos CEO Brian Stading said the investment reflects the company’s dedication to providing fast fiber internet to every community.
“We’re proud to be the first 100% fiber provider in the Mahoning Valley, bringing critical infrastructure to the area and helping to pave the pathway for economic growth in these areas,” said Stading in a press release.
Trumbull County commissioner Denny Malloy said that access to high-speed broadband is essential for the community.
“Many residents still find themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide,” said Malloy in the same press release. “With Lumos Fiber’s investment in broadband fiber, both our rural and urban communities will now have a chance to thrive in a new digitally empowered world.”
