Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN) and MOBITV announced plans to launch an app-based video service, Kinetic TV, which will enable Windstream's residential customers to access content when and where they want it via the MOBITV CONNECT Platform.

The service will launch in phases, starting in selected Windstream north Georgia markets, followed by the company's Lincoln, NE, markets. Kinetic TV is expected to be available across eight additional Kinetic by Windstream designated market areas this year. The company will utilize the MOBITV CONNECT Platform to transition its network's video delivery system to an extendable, IP-based approach to app-based video that includes on-demand, live TV, catchup TV, network DVR, and recommendations to consumers, through consumer devices. Customers will have the ability to download the app and view television on any of their connected devices, connected TVs, PCs, tablets, and mobile phones.

"The future of entertainment for consumers is all about access," said Jeff Small, president of consumer and small and medium business services for Windstream. "Kinetic TV combines access to popular movies and shows with the flexibility to watch on a variety of devices, at any time, at home or on the go, and at lower cost than traditional cable. It's the perfect complement to Windstream Kinetic Internet."

"MOBITV is proud to service Windstream's current and future customers with app-based TV on our future-proof and agile platform," said Charlie Nooney, CEO of MOBITV. "MOBITV CONNECT supports the latest technologies such as 4K/HEVC, cloud DVR, replay TV, and robust voice control - without the high cost to the operator of constantly replacing legacy set-top boxes in the home. With the rapidly changing technological revolution in video, we're proud to address operators' needs, such as Windstream's, to transition their pay TV offerings to IP-based solutions."

Kinetic by Windstream provides services to residential and business customers in 18 states. The Kinetic suite of services includes high-speed Internet, entertainment, phone and security products for homes and businesses.
