Motorola Mobility has teamed up with Verizon on the telco's Home Monitoring and Control "smart home" service. The new service leverages Motorola's 4Home technology for home monitoring, control and energy management. It offers such features as seeing who's at the front door, via the phone; turning off all the lights with the push of a button; and automating the thermostat to keep utility bills down. The service costs $9.99 per month, with equipment packages starting at $69.99.Moto developed the platform that connects various devices in the home to the cloud. The software platform is embedded into the gateway included in each Verizon service kit. The software communicates with Motorola's portal server solution to provide real-time support for the home monitoring, control and energy management services. The service can be hosted and managed in real time.
