With several other RFoG manufacturers in this arena, Aurora’s high RF output level RFoG MDU CPE stood out for the Diamonds judges because of the flexibility of its design. “This application should be considered a tool in the toolbox for commercial and residential deployments,” said one Diamonds judge.

Using the 1,310 nm (or 1,610 nm) upstream wavelength, the MDU CPE incorporates DFB lasers that can provide a greater dynamic range than F-P lasers for the same NPR/BER performance and link budget, notes Aurora. Its high-level RF output for multi-tenant applications enables provisioning of FTTP with existing back-end solutions. Plus, the unit’s compact size and powering options make for easy placement and a smoother transition to an all-fiber network, the vendor indicates. The judges particularly liked the unit’s higher output (“it should have no trouble feeding 16 or even 32 units provided drop lengths are within range”); lower distortion level, which should accommodate one or more amplifiers downstream; and compact package/excellent technical specifications since both “bode well for the stability of the unit.”http://www.aurora.comSee them at Cable-Tec EXPO, booth 1668Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
