Cox Communications has introduced Contour, a video experience designed to integrate personal recommendations into a new guide, a tablet app that serves up relevant content to viewers at home or on-the-go and a DVR that can record six shows at once.Contour is partly based on a recent study of consumer preferences that indicates Cox video customers spent almost 60% of their viewing time on "convenience" TV rather than live TV. More than half of respondents said they use streaming video players, and usage is both increasing and extending beyond the primary TV set.The app, available free at the Apple Store, features a second screen personal video experience with the ability to search for live or on-demand content with a swipe, access to more than 90 national cable channels of live TV, and thousands of VOD selections. The Contour guide recognizes up to eight unique user profiles recommending different shows for each user and offers personal recommendations based on specific shows each person watches. The DVR records up to six shows at once and features 2 TB of storage.
