The MG2402 is an RDK-based triple-play headless gateway. It not only provides the primary screen experience, but it also replicates it throughout the home on IP connected devices, including second-screen devices like tablets or PCs. Multi-room DVR, VOD, music, audio and TV programming are distributed through the home network via Ethernet, MoCA or WiFi, with the same "look and feel" across all devices, ARRIS says. Specifically, TVs have a low-cost IP set-top box served by the MG2402, while other devices consume transcoded streams.

From a technology perspective, the MG2402 is "chockfull," one Diamonds judge noted. It includes 24 downstreams of DOCSIS, dual-band current WiFi, CableCARD-based conditional access termination, four simultaneous transcodes, and IMS-based HD voice with embedded DECT. The MG2402's "unique approach to a hybrid QAM and DOCSIS video gateway" and its "comprehensive approach to managing the home and customer devices" will give operators a "migration path to new IP services," the judges said.www.arrisi.comSee them at Cable-Tec Expo, Booth 868Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
