ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) is integrating a new, underlying open source software stack into broadband modems, in collaboration with Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA). The software is expected to serve as a foundation for a new version of the RDK for broadband devices that is currently under development.

ARRIS plans to conduct field trials with Comcast of the new ARRIS Touchstone TG1682 DOCSIS 3.0 Voice Gateway with the new software incorporated in Q4 2014; general availability is expected in Q1 2015.
