TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO) has introduced the TiVo BOLT, which has a SkipMode feature designed to let viewers skip entire commercial breaks in certain recorded shows with the press of a button.

The new 4K-compatible set-top box, targeted at consumers rather than service providers, is intended to unify the source of any available program from cable, VOD, over-the-air and OTT, while providing a way to watch without commercials. It features TiVo's universal search across all channels and streaming providers, as well as mobile apps and a new QuickMode designed to allow for 30% faster viewing of recorded shows. Personalization features include recommendations from friends and family, selections from critics, and the latest videos related to the viewer's hobbies and interests.

"The TiVo BOLT arrives at a time of piqued interest in both connected devices and commercial avoidance," said Tom Rogers, TiVo's president and CEO. "The clear demand of consumers is for a TV experience that quickly delivers them exactly what they want the instant they turn on the screen."

Pricing starts at $300 for the 500 GB TiVo BOLT, and TiVo BOLT 1000 GB sells for $400. Prices for both include a year of TiVo service, which is required. Other subscription video services such as cable or Netflix must be purchased separately.
