Gemtek taps Keysight for 4G/5G LTE testing of CPE, eMBB devices

Keysight’s test system uses the company’s UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform to enable Gemtek, an original design manufacturer (ODM) of wireless broadband communications equipment, to design high-performing CPEs.

Keysight Technologies (NYSE: KEYS) announced that Gemtek has selected Keysight’s 5G and 4G LTE test platforms to verify data rate performance of consumer premises equipment (CPE) and mobile devices used to deliver fixed wireless access (FWA) in homes and businesses.

Keysight’s test system uses the company’s UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform to enable Gemtek, an original design manufacturer (ODM) of wireless broadband communications equipment, to design high-performing CPEs. Such CPEs are used by operators of private and national mobile networks to deliver enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) services. Gemtek selected Keysight’s 5G and 4G LTE test platforms to validate its designs, which serve an ecosystem consisting of more than 430 operators and around 75 vendors of indoor and outdoor CPE providers.

“Working with Keysight has enabled Gemtek to accelerate the development of high-performing designs for a market that relies on a combination of technologies, including 4G, 5G and Wi-Fi, to deliver broadband wireless communications,” commented Fred Yeh, chief technology officer at Gemtek.

Yeh added, “Keysight’s test platforms allow us to continuously expand operations into new technologies or standards, such as Wi-Fi 7 and O-RAN, as well as markets that serve industries and consumers that need reliable wireless connectivity, no matter where they are.”

Gemtek also relies on Keysight’s 5G test platforms to verify designs that support 5G new radio (NR) technology in standalone (SA) mode, which doesn’t require the LTE core for signaling. This enables operators to reduce their dependence on multiple technologies and the resulting complexity. The companies note that larger businesses are expected to deploy private 5G NR networks in the SA mode, which stands to increase productivity and improve efficiencies in a wide range of processes including those in factories, warehouses, ports, agriculture, mining and oil refineries.

“We’re pleased to expand our collaboration with Gemtek with 5G and 4G test solutions that streamline the workflow from early prototyping, design verification to high-volume manufacturing,” concluded Cao Peng, senior director of Keysight’s communications solutions group. “Keysight’s test platforms support multiple technologies enabling a growing ecosystem of manufacturers to verify designs needed to deliver high data rates in mobile and fixed wireless access applications.”
