Chattanooga's municipal power company and ISP EPB has launched 10 Gbps residential Internet service at $299 a month.
EPB started the gigabit ball rolling in 2010 with its launch of a fiber-based 1 Gbps service. Since then, gigabit has accelerated around the country, with launches by AT&T, Google Fiber, CenturyLink, Cox Communications, Grande Communications, Suddenlink, and myriad others, including many small rural operators.
This spring, Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) upped the gigabit ante with its Gigabit Pro service, which offers speeds of 2 Gbps. And just last month, the city of Salisbury, NC, raised the bid again with the first (that we're aware of) 10 Gbps residential service.
