Light Brigade, AFL's training and education division, launched an online safety course titled, "More Than Just Lasers - A Guide to Practical Fiber Optic Safety."
The course examines fiber-specific safety concerns like working with sharp glass fibers, harsh chemicals in cleaners, adhesives and the tools used for preparing cables. Students will learn best practices for working at job sites that often include heavy equipment, power tools, high voltage or fast-moving traffic.
The online format is designed to let students log in from anywhere and learn how to identify and respond to safety issues unique to fiber optics. The course is also intended to provide a foundation for starting or enhancing required safety programs.
"After years of teaching safety best practices in our instructor-led classes, we have put together a comprehensive and extremely useful online course to help keep everyone in the fiber-optic space safe at work," said Lee Kellett, general manager of the Light Brigade. "This is the perfect addition to any corporate training program designed by the experts in fiber optic training."
