Twin Falls, Idaho area poised for TDS all-fiber internet

The new network will feature up to 2Gig internet download and upload speeds, plus TV and phone service.

The Twin Falls, Idaho area, the world-renowned 'Magic Valley', is now in line to receive some of the fastest internet speeds in the market thanks to TDS Telecommunications' newly announced plans to expand its all-fiber internet network to this part of the state.

A major fiber-optic project will deliver essentially the gold standard of residential internet connections to approximately 32,000 addresses in Idaho communities, including Twin Falls, Burley, and Jerome.

“Twin Falls prides itself on being closely connected,” City of Twin Falls Mayor Ruth Pierce said. “Providing the latest in high-speed internet options to our current and future residents is critical to our community’s success and development.”

The new network will feature up to 2Gig internet download and upload speeds, plus TV and phone service. Construction is expected to begin later this year.

“We are thrilled to serve the Magic Valley. With this project, TDS will bring better connections to residents, businesses, schools, public safety agencies, and many others,” said Andrew Petersen, TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

According to a Fiber Broadband Association report as cited by TDS, only 43 percent of households in the United States have access to fiber, "putting residents in Twin Falls, Jerome, and Burley in a select group with such access," noted the TDS statement.

In addition to fast internet, TDS’ Magic Valley expansion will give residents a new choice for TV and phone providers. TDS’ TV product, TDS TV+, offers local and national networks, integration with popular streaming services, the ability to start shows over, and cloud DVR. Phone packages and service bundles will be available.

10Gig dedicated connections will be available for businesses, as well as TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution, and TDS TV+.

“With its world-class outdoor activities, strong small businesses, and ideal location in south-central Idaho, this private-sector investment will strengthen the area’s infrastructure and help communities continue to grow and prosper,” Petersen said.

TDS has served Idaho since 1988, previously doing business as Potlatch Telephone Company. Residents in Twin Falls, Jerome, and Burley will join other TDS customers in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Juliaetta, Troy, Kendrick, Nampa, Garden City, Boise, and Meridian.
