Antietam Broadband last month announced the launch of its multi-gigabit network in Washington County, Maryland. Antietam’s Flight Fiber network will allow both residential and business customers in the community of Boonsboro access to the increased speeds of gigabit broadband service. The new network provides speeds up to 2.3 gigabits with the flexibility to add more speed in the future.

“The launch of Flight Fiber underscores our commitment to Boonsboro and all of Washington County," said Brian Lynch, president of Antietam Broadband. “Our fiber network is designed to allows us to rapidly deploy technology as it emerges, all to the benefit of our customers."

The company says its Flight Fiber network provides for symmetrical upload and download speeds, enhanced security, and reliability, with no data caps or contracts. With the new network, the provider noted that customers will have an enhanced experience with regard to online learning, remote work, gaming, and benefits to the multi-user home.

As more devices in the home are connected, the need for symmetrical speeds increases. As cited by the service provider, a Parks Associates study released at CES 2022 showed that the average home in 2017 had 9.6 devices connected; meanwhile, as of 2021, there were an average of 14.5 devices connected. The Flight Fiber system will ensure that each connected device enjoys increased functionality and reduced latency.

The provider notes that Boonsboro is one of the few towns in Maryland, and the first in Washington County, to have access to multi-gigabit speeds.

“It’s exciting for Boonsboro to be one of the first in the county to enjoy a multi-gig network,” said Boonsboro Mayor Howard Long. “I am thrilled that our residents and businesses will have access to this cutting-edge technology."
