ISE EXPO, SCTE partner for Hands-on Fiber Training

The organizers of ISE EXPO and SCTE® a subsidiary of CableLabs have announce their collaboration to provide a Hands-on Fiber Training program at ISE EXPO 2023, August 28-29, 2023, in Kansas City, MO. The training is aimed at cable MSO technicians who need to learn the basics of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network deployment.

Participants will gain hands-on experience with the equipment typically needed to install, test, and troubleshoot fiber-optic networks. Participants who complete the program and a final exam will earn an SCTE Broadband Fiber Installation Certificate Level I and Level II. Level III is the Certified level. All participants will be offered a discount on the SCTE Broadband Fiber Installation professional certification exam that would lead to certification for three years.

The program includes two days of classroom and hands-on activities. The training sessions include such topics as

  • Fiber Scope and ISO/IES Cleaning
    • Mechanical Fiber Microscopes
    • Digital Fiber Microscopes
  • VFLs and Vendor CPE
    • Visual Fault Locator
    • CPE, Cabinets, etc.
  • Strip, Clean and Cleave
    • Safety, Hand Stripping, Mini Cleaver
    • Straight Splice
  • All-in-One Splice & Connectorization
    • All-in-One Splice
    • SC/APC Connector
  • Calculating Optical Power Budgets
  • Optical Power Meter, OLS & OTDR

Registration is open currently at www.handsonfiber.com but is limited to 50 participants. Early-bird registration is available through July 28, 2023, and features a registration fee discount of $250. A discount on an ISE EXPO full conference pass is available to registrants as well.
