The new box is designed to be twice as fast as its predecessors, contain five times more memory and feature embedded security. In addition to HD video, digital sound and on-demand and interactive services, the software-programmable DCX525e is designed to be able to be converted to IP in the future.

It supports MPEG-4 and SDV, and also also utilizes a client compatible with both the ARRIS SmartStream Terminal Data Collector (STDC) and the ARRIS ServAssure ALOHA Collector for remotely gathering set-top status and health information in a centralized server.
