Tektronix announced a video quality monitoring solution for HEVC/H.265 encoded streams as part of the latest software release for its Sentry portfolio of video quality monitors. The update is intended to deliver a scalable HEVC solution for monitoring QoS and QoE, and support 4K/UltraHD across the company's portfolio of video test and network monitoring solutions.

The latest Sentry software release (version 9.3) also includes digital program insertion (DPI) monitoring capabilities to support the new blackout descriptor tags specified in SCTE-35 2012.

In other Tektronix news, the company has joined the TICO Alliance, a newly formed group aiming to ease 4K/UltraHD adoption challenges. TICO is a new compression technology designed to provide visually lossless compression up to 4:1 and enable 4K/UltraHD content to be transported over existing SDI infrastructure as well as 10 GigE IP production and contribution networks.
