The Electra X media processors address the need for high-quality video content on a wide range of devices. These products converge broadcast and multiscreen encoding with graphics and branding capabilities from Harmonic's Spectrum ChannelPort integrated channel playout system plus transport stream functionality. This reduces the number of devices required to build a broadcast transmission chain, which reduces capital and operating expenditures, Harmonic says.

The on-board graphics capabilities can be used to reinforce on-air branding. For example, by squeezing back a program's end credits while previewing an upcoming show, users can generate new revenue streams with regionalized and "double-box" advertising opportunities. The live feed is squeezed back into a small box while a national, regional, or local advertisement runs in a larger box. Advertisers also can be offered a "graphic avail," which uses a background slate to convey additional or localized company information while the ad plays.

The Electra X2 is designed for SD and HD media processing applications. It has multi-function capabilities, which helps accelerate the launch of services like OTT streaming and the broadcasting of new HD channels, Harmonic says. The Electra X3 provides real-time UHD and HEVC encoding capabilities, and can deliver broadcast-ready content at resolutions up to 2160p60 via HEVC.
