252 Million Cable Modem Subs by 2018

According to a report by GIA, the number of cable modem subscribers globally is projected to reach 252.6 million by 2018. Advent of next generation cable modem systems, integration of VoIP and WLAN technologies into cable modems, and shifts toward DOCSIS 3.0 specifications are expected to drive adoption of cable broadband services throughout the world.Cable broadband is the second most popular broadband technology in the world following DSL, with 30% of the subscriber base. Cable broadband technology holds an edge over DSL due to its superior speeds and in terms of content and services.
