Finnish tech company Teleste and Casa Systems have agreed to collaborate on the development of a distributed CCAP/remote PHY solution. The solution will combine Casa's C100G CCAP platform supporting RemotePHY architecture and Teleste's RemotePHY optical node.

The jointly developed RemotePHY solution is designed to address increasing demand for higher broadband speeds. It's intended to enable cable MSOs to compete with optical access technologies at speeds up to 10 Gbps via existing HFC plant. It's also designed to provide an evolution path from centralized CMTS/CCAP architectures to distributed standards based CCAP/RemotePHY architecture, and to enable multivendor interoperability.

The companies plan for proof-of-concept implementation by late 2014. The primary market for the jointly developed solution will be European cable operators.
