Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has introduced the next generation of its single-fiber core alignment fusion splicer, the Quantum Type-Q101-CA -PLUS with WiFi. The new splicer features a navigational touch screen, dual independent heat shrink ovens, and is designed to reduce heater shrink time by half from 28 to 14 seconds compared to its predecessor.

The WiFi capability is intended for splice data transfer and other interactive work related features via mobile apps. Other features include an Internet interface for 24/7 remote diagnostic and maintenance with Sumitomo On-Time Service Center technicians, video playback, and an SD port for data storage for software, training, and video uploads/downloads.
