Kabel Deutschland is partnering with Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) to create its next generation video service. The service converges TV content, including broadcast, on-demand, catch-up, and time-shift TV with Internet video of all types, in one video hub for the home.
Subscribers can access all the video they consume through a single user interface that works across all their TVs and personal devices. The service is intended to be a unified portal to all forms of video.
The service, expected to deploy in 2016/17, is based on a new cloud-powered TV platform that KDG is developing with Cisco. The platform moves control and functionality into the cloud. In the home, the service will use connected devices from Cisco.
