Western New York telco Empire Access is launching 1 Gbps Internet speeds and FTTH service in Ontario County, NY, starting in the Finger Lakes village of Naples, NY, population 1,020. The service is launching in Naples in large part because the community is the hub and connection point for two open-access dark fiber networks, Axcess Ontario and the Southern Tier Network.

Axcess Ontario, the public-benefit corporation that owns and operates the 200-plus-mile dark fiber ring in Ontario County, paved the way for Empire Access to offer the gigabit and FTTH service. Based in Prattsburgh, NY, Empire Access provides telephone, Internet, digital TV, security and home automation in New York and Pennsylvania.
