Envivio (NASDAQ:ENVI) announced its latest version, 4.0, of its Muse video compression software. The company says the upgrades bring 10% video quality improvements on average and up to 25% for some sequences.

Muse 4.0 features a new 'Up!' compression mode for MPEG-2 and H.264, as well as improved statistical rate control of variable bitrate (VBR) data streams for broadcast video. It's also designed to allow for video switching between sources at a scheduled time.

It's intended to prepare operators for 4K Ultra HD TV and to save network bandwidth, streamline ad replacement or content black-out workflows, and move toward a single facility to manage all multiscreen video operations.
